Things Ceramicy

My lovely sister has been querying my lack of blogging. So, H, here is an update, just for you! (Nice to know at least one person reads this).

It's been quite hard to get back into college after half term and the frenetic work at the end of the last projects. That, and I have a cold and it's soon to be Christmas. Was meant to be writing an essay on eco design and sustainability on Tuesday ('the best eco design is the one that doesn't get made at all'). But thought, bugger that, and went stocking shopping for mass-production goods instead. The Green movement still has a way to go where consumption is concerned I fear.

So, on to the next Pathway project: News.

I'm planning to do a painting and a non-literal sculpture type thing. Not sounding terribly promising so far, but we'll see. I'd really love to be able to paint. So, although it scares me (especially the mixing of colours) I'm going to give it my best shot.

I finished off my despondent little man yesterday:

Not bad for my first ever ceramic head. (Well, at least better than the hand print plate I made when I was about ten).

My two workshops this term are Ceramics and Product Design. Cool!

Ceramics set off at a very fast pace, with us making a slab pot, tiles and a porcelain slip piece all in one lesson. It's fab to see how things are actually made (and experience making them) having seen them at craft exhibitions all these years. And yes, H, I certainly thought of your marmite pots during the process!
