On the Face of the Earth

Ok, that's a bit of a tenuous title, linking 'Face' (the name of the project) to the photos I took the other night. Photos where faces feature very little!

Spent a fun evening tonight, cutting out and mixing and matching, a bit like a big puzzle. In needing a background for my cut-outs of the girls, I'm very fortunate in having access to Pete's photography. A quick survey of his photos delivered hundreds of stunning landscape photos, taken from places as far-flung as Japan, Bhutan, Burma and NZ. So, today I made photoshop contact sheets out of 136 of them, and tonight I cut out the ones I thought worked best.

My plan is to use photoshop to 'cut out' the figures and then put them on different backgrounds. (Had a great little lesson with Dave, teaching me how to do that. He was very patient as I frantically wrote down copious notes.)

When I was trying on my own previously, I did this cut out, which I really liked.

But it's not what I want to do for this project.

I think that for lots of the photos, they'll be strong enough just contrasting the figure with the background. However, with this photo of Lucy I'd like to go a bit more 'Loretta Lux' with her:

I think it's a really strong photo, and I like it on the subtle, pastel shaded sea behind her.

Below are some of my other current mixes. I particularly like the ones of Minnie on the lake. I think they are particularly strong but also quite subtle.

You really were busy. I think you have some great images coming out of this - particularly the one of Lucy with the river behind her.
